We believe the mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected and true health and wellness begins with a commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.
Living a healthy lifestyle begins as a decision - a decision to make good choices when eating and exercising. The food you consume to fuel your body can have significant effects on your organs, energy, and even emotions. Just making small changes to your current diet can make a drastic impact on how you look and feel.
Realizing the importance and impact of exercise and healthy food choices, OCPA has added practitioners who specialize in lifestyle management and can assist patients to adopt a healthier lifestyle. This medically supervised program can be a stand-alone service focused on diet and exercise, or as an additional service to complement your psychiatric care to create a thorough and complete treatment plan.
There are many tools that help us assess a bassline of your current health. One of them is your BMI which helps to estimate body fat.
Body mass index (BMI) is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. Excess body fat is related to serious health conditions. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. Unfortunately, the BMI does not consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may underestimate body fat for with low muscle mass and overestimate body mass for people who are very muscular.

  • UNDERWEIGHT = <18.5
  • NORMAL WEIGHT = 18.6-24.9
  • OVERWEIGHT = 25-29.9
  • OBESITY = BMI of 30 or greater

The goal is to make you as healthy as possible and to reduce, and possibly eliminate, medication in your life.

Our experience with general medicine and psychiatric care has proved that implementing a healthy lifestyle as part of the treatment process results in better outcomes. Through our Health & Wellness service we can treat a range of medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and more.

Very few health problems are isolated in the human body. Think of the body as one big machine. If one part is broken, chances are it will eventually lead to other parts breaking down or other complications. We want to make sure all parts are working together to keep things running smoothly and prevent further breakdowns.

For example, a patient who deals with anxiety may also suffer from high blood pressure or other medical problems. If we address the high blood pressure through diet and exercise, it may positively influence the symptoms of his or her anxiety, and vice versa.

Good health is accessible and affordable to everyone.

Lifestyle is obviously a very personal set of decisions and varies from person to person. With this service, we will work with you and your beliefs, budget, and schedule to create a plan that aligns with your goals and that is realistically attainable. We want to see you succeed in all areas of your life.

We have years of experience providing medical care and educating patients to help them truly understand his or her medical condition and the different methods that will contribute to improving their overall health and wellness. We have conducted seminars at retreats, universities, churches, missions, and hospitals, and now with this added service we can educate you about healthy living and how it affects all aspects of life right here in our office.

Healthy eating and living doesn’t have to be invasive; it just takes a commitment to start making changes for the better, one step at a time.

The first small step is easy—set up an appointment with us regarding the Health & Wellness service.

During that appointment we will discuss current medical problems, examine current lifestyle habits such as dietary, exercise and sleep habits, review medical history and lab results, and conduct a physical examination. From there we will develop an individualized health plan for you.

Once that plan is in place, there will be periodic assessments to monitor your progress by following up on progression of symptoms, laboratory work, and changes in health.

Making lifestyle changes is not always easy, but the road begins with making one good decision at a time. We are committed to personalized care and will guide you during the process to encourage you and to help you overcome obstacles.
